LUNGA

One of the Treshnish Isles, Lunga is a designated Site of special scientific interest, Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation. These designations reflect the importance of the island for its marine life, including the Grey Seals that inhabit the waters around it, and for its breeding colonies of seabirds, including Storm Petrels, Kittiewakes, Manx Shearwaters, Gullimot, Puffin, European Shag and Razorbills.

A small excursion boat from the Island of Mull takes you to this uninhabited Island, The same trip takes you to the Island of Staffa and must see Fingal's Cave.

MAY

The Isle of May is located 5 miles off the coast of Anstruther in Fife. The Isle of May in Scotland is one of the easiest islands to visit off the East Coast. The Isle of May is a national nature reserve, and in the spring and summer months, it’s thriving with sea birds who return to breed. A visit to this island can also be easily achieved in a day

HANDA

Without a doubt one of Shirley and Fraser's favorite West Coast Islands, We arrived in early May when the Puffin population was just getting established, We didn't realize until we got onto the Island that Puffins like humans nearby, the reason for this is simply Great Skuas or better known locally as Bonxies which raid the nests for both eggs and young Pufflings. The Skuas don't come near when Human visitors are around and the Puffins know it. giving them some much deserved respite.

We arrived late for the small Ferry which was in fact a large inflatable, No time to spare we boarded, Shirley not having time to change to walking boots covered the island wearing her bright pink flip-flops... LOL

Each spring, tens of thousands of seabirds migrate to the magnificent Torridonian sandstone cliffs that rise from the Atlantic on the north west coast of Handa Island. This wild island is an internationally important breeding site for guillemots, Razorbill's and great skuas that spend the summer breeding and feeding in the rich waters around Handa.

The dramatic cliffs provide stunning ocean panoramas and a chance to spot some of our larger marine species: Minke whales, Bottlenose and Risso’s dolphins, grey seals and even the occasional Orca or basking shark can be seen.
